Biography

Gabriel the Archangel is known as God's messenger and appears at crucial moments in salvation history. His name means 'God is my strength' or 'God is my mighty one.' Gabriel appears prominently in the Book of Daniel, where he interprets visions and delivers God's messages with clarity and authority. Most significantly, Gabriel is the archangel who announces Jesus's coming birth to Mary, the mother of Jesus, in the Annunciation (Luke 1:26-38). He also announced John the Baptist's birth to Zechariah. Gabriel embodies divine communication and the announcement of God's will to humanity. In Christian tradition, he is depicted as standing in God's presence and serving as His herald. Gabriel represents obedience to God's purposes and the bridge between the divine and human realms. His feast day celebrates his essential role in God's plan of salvation.
