Biography

Raphael the Archangel is God's healing messenger, whose name means 'God heals.' He appears most prominently in the Book of Tobit, where he guides Tobias on a difficult journey and helps him find a wife while protecting him from danger. Throughout the narrative, Raphael demonstrates both practical assistance and spiritual guidance, ultimately revealing his true angelic nature. In Jewish tradition, Raphael is one of the seven archangels who stand before God's throne. He is associated with healing in both physical and spiritual dimensions and represents God's merciful care for His people. Christian tradition venerates Raphael as the healer among the archangels and invokes his intercession for the sick and for safe travel. He is typically depicted with a staff and often shown with Tobias. Raphael embodies the compassionate side of divine service and the balance between protecting and guiding those in need.
