Biography
Matrona Dmitriyevna Manyova (1881–1952) was born blind yet possessed extraordinary spiritual insight and healing power. Despite physical blindness from infancy, she navigated the spiritual world with remarkable clarity, counseling thousands who sought her wisdom. Blind from age eight, she never attended school yet demonstrated profound theological understanding and prophetic knowledge. During the Soviet era, she secretly ministered to believers despite persecution, her small room becoming a sanctuary for the desperate and afflicted. Matrona never accepted money for her spiritual work, living in extreme poverty while performing countless miracles of healing and deliverance. She read hearts with supernatural accuracy and prescribed specific prayers and remedies with astonishing results. Her fame grew throughout Moscow despite communist suppression of religious activity. After her death, veneration spread rapidly; her grave became a major pilgrimage destination with thousands reporting miraculous healings and answered prayers. She canonized in 1998, officially recognized for her sanctity and intercessory power.
