Isaac the Syrian (c. 613-700), also called Isaac of Nineveh, was a Syriac Christian bishop and mystical theologian whose works profoundly shaped Christian spirituality. Initially serving as Bishop of Nineveh, he withdrew to monastic life to pursue deeper union with God, eventually settling in the mountains of Kurdistan. Isaac authored extensive homilies and theological writings emphasizing divine mercy as the ultimate reality governing all existence. His theology centers on the universal restoration of all creation in God's love, presenting God's justice as an expression of infinite compassion rather than retribution.
