Biografia
Chiara Luce Badano was an Italian teenager born in 1971 who lived a remarkably spiritual life despite battling cancer. An active participant in the Focolare Movement, a Catholic lay organization emphasizing universal brotherhood, Chiara embodied extraordinary joy and faith during her illness. After a car accident revealed osteosarcoma, a bone cancer, she endured chemotherapy and amputation of her leg while maintaining radiant positivity. Rather than despair, she viewed suffering as an opportunity for spiritual growth and service to others, living by the Focolare principle of "losing oneself" to love God and neighbor. She continued school and social activities despite her condition, inspiring countless people with her courage. Chiara died in October 1990 at age 18. Her remarkable witness to faith during adolescence in the modern era led to her canonization in 2010, making her a patron saint particularly resonant with young people facing suffering.
