Basil of Ostrog (1610-1671) was a Serbian Orthodox monk and spiritual leader who became one of the most venerated saints in Serbian Christianity. Born in Herzegovina during Ottoman occupation, he founded the Ostrog Monastery in a remote mountain location, creating a spiritual sanctuary amid religious persecution. His monastery became a center of Orthodox resistance against Ottoman-imposed Islamic conversion and a beacon of faith for oppressed Serbian Christians.
