Životopis
Stanisław Kostka (1550-1568) was a Polish Jesuit novice canonized as the patron saint of youth and students. Born into a noble Polish family, he received a humanistic education befitting his status. At age seventeen, inspired by Jesuit spirituality, Stanisław felt called to religious life despite strong parental opposition; his father was particularly hostile to his vocation. With remarkable determination, the young man left home secretly and traveled to Vienna to join the Society of Jesus. His family's resistance continued even after his profession, but Stanisław persevered with quiet obedience and growing spiritual maturity. During his brief time as a Jesuit novice—less than two years—he impressed his superiors with his intense piety, mystical experiences, and exemplary conduct. He died of illness at just eighteen years old. Despite his short life, his sanctity and unwavering vocational commitment profoundly influenced Polish Catholicism and established him as the primary patron of young people discerning religious vocations.
