Životopis

Pio of Pietrelcina (1887-1968), born Francesco Forgione, was an Italian Capuchin friar whose stigmata and mystical experiences made him one of Catholicism's most popular saints. Entering the Capuchin order at age fifteen, Pio was ordained in 1910 and assigned to San Giovanni Rotondo monastery in southern Italy, where he remained for fifty-two years. Beginning in 1918, he bore the five wounds of Christ's crucifixion, making him only the second priest in Church history to receive the stigmata. Pio's extraordinary spiritual gifts—including reputed bilocation, reading hearts, and prophetic knowledge—attracted hundreds of thousands of pilgrims seeking his counsel and intercession. He established the Home for the Relief of Suffering, a hospital exemplifying his commitment to healthcare and compassion. Despite Vatican investigations into his phenomena, Pio remained obedient to ecclesiastical authority and humble about his mystical graces. His lengthy confessional lines and devoted spiritual direction profoundly influenced countless souls. Pope John Paul II canonized him in 2002, confirming his extraordinary sanctity and intercessory power.
