Životopis
Our Lady of Sorrows commemorates Mary's profound suffering alongside Christ, particularly at His Passion and Crucifixion. This devotion developed throughout the medieval period, becoming formalized with the establishment of the feast day in the liturgical calendar. Seven principal sorrows are traditionally associated with Mary: the prophecy of Simeon, the flight to Egypt, the loss of Jesus in the temple, meeting Jesus on the way to Calvary, witnessing the Crucifixion, receiving Jesus's body, and His entombment. Rather than depicting passive suffering, this devotion emphasizes Mary's active spiritual motherhood and her redemptive role in Christ's work. Devotion to Our Lady of Sorrows encourages the faithful to unite their own sufferings with Christ's sacrifice through Mary's intercession, finding spiritual strength and hope amid trials.
