Životopis

Nikolaj Velimirović (1881-1956) was a Serbian Orthodox bishop, theologian, and prolific writer who became a defining spiritual voice of the twentieth century. Educated in theology and philosophy across Europe, he served as Bishop of Žiča and later Ohrid, establishing himself as a brilliant preacher and apologist for Orthodoxy. During World War II, he was imprisoned in concentration camps by Nazi forces, enduring severe suffering with remarkable spiritual fortitude. His experiences deepened his mystical insights and compassion for the suffering. Velimirović authored numerous works on prayer, dogmatic theology, and pastoral care that influenced Orthodox Christianity globally. He emphasized the resurrection of Christ as the center of Christian hope and wrote extensively about overcoming spiritual despair. Despite his persecution and exile, he maintained an optimistic vision of divine providence and human redemption, becoming a beacon of faith for oppressed peoples.
