Životopis
John the Baptist was a Jewish preacher who baptized Jesus Christ in the Jordan River, marking a pivotal moment in Christian history. Born to elderly parents Zechariah and Elizabeth, he lived an austere life in the wilderness, subsisting on locusts and wild honey. John proclaimed a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins, drawing crowds from Jerusalem and Judea. He recognized Jesus as the Messiah, famously declaring 'Behold, the Lamb of God.' Despite his humility—stating he was unworthy to untie Jesus' sandals—John's influence was significant enough to threaten King Herod Antipas, who imprisoned him for criticizing his marriage to his brother's wife. John was eventually executed by beheading around 29 AD. His feast day commemorates his martyrdom, and he is venerated as the forerunner of Christ and the greatest among those born of women.
