Životopis
Gerasimos of Kefalonia (1506-1579) was a Greek Orthodox monk and saint born on the Ionian island of Kefalonia. After a brief marriage, he entered monastic life and eventually established the Monastery of the Virgin Mary Omala on Kefalonia. Known for his extraordinary compassion, Gerasimos miraculously healed numerous pilgrims suffering from demonic possession, blindness, and other afflictions. He was renowned for his gentleness toward animals, particularly a lion he befriended, which became legendary in Orthodox tradition. His spiritual authority attracted thousands of devoted followers. Gerasimos practiced extreme asceticism while maintaining pastoral sensitivity toward suffering people. After his death, his incorrupt relics became a major pilgrimage destination. He was canonized by the Orthodox Church and remains deeply venerated on Kefalonia as a protector and healer.
