Životopis

Elijah was an Old Testament prophet of Israel active during the 9th century BCE, known as the supreme intercessor and model of mystical spirituality. His ministry opposed Baal worship and idolatry in the kingdoms of Judah and Israel, demonstrating God's power through miracles including resurrection and rainfall. His dramatic encounters with God—the still small voice, his transfiguration on Mount Horeb—exemplified prophetic mysticism. Elijah's ascension to heaven in a fiery chariot, rather than physical death, made him uniquely significant in Jewish and Christian tradition. He appeared with Jesus during the Transfiguration, linking Old Testament prophecy to Christian revelation. His intercession is invoked particularly by contemplatives and mystics. Though not formally canonized, the Catholic Church venerates him as forerunner and model of prophetic holiness, with his feast commemorating his spiritual intensity and divine union.
