Životopis
Domnius of Split (died c. 304) was an early Christian bishop and martyr from the Dalmatian city of Salona (near Split). According to tradition, he was a disciple of Saint Peter or among the earliest Christian missionaries to the Adriatic coast. Domnius served as bishop during the Roman persecutions and was eventually martyred for his faith during the reign of Emperor Diocletian. His relics became central to the spiritual and physical development of Split; the magnificent Cathedral of Saint Domnius was built in the 7th century within the mausoleum of the Roman Emperor Diocletian, and Domnius's shrine became one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Christendom. He is venerated as the principal patron saint of Split and a foundational figure in Dalmatian Christianity. Domnius's tomb and the cathedral dedicated to his name represent centuries of Christian continuity and resilience in the region, making him a symbol of Split's Christian heritage.
