Životopis

Blaise was a bishop and physician in Sebaste, Armenia, during the 4th century. He lived as a hermit in a cave after fleeing persecution, where wild animals reportedly came to him for healing. During the Christian persecutions under Emperor Licinius, Blaise was arrested and imprisoned. According to tradition, while imprisoned, he miraculously healed a woman's son who was choking on a fishbone, establishing his association with throat ailments. He was martyred by being combed with wool carders and beheaded around 316 AD. His intercession for throat afflictions became so venerated that the Blessing of St. Blaise, involving two crossed candles held to the throat, remains a popular Catholic practice on his feast day.
