Raphael of Lesbos (1753-1814) was a Greek Orthodox bishop and monastic reformer known for his pastoral devotion and reported healing miracles. Born on the island of Lesbos during Ottoman rule, he pursued monastic life and eventually became bishop of his native island. Raphael distinguished himself through tireless pastoral work, tending to spiritual and physical needs of his flock during a period of Ottoman oppression and prevalent disease. He established and reformed monasteries, emphasizing strict observance of monastic discipline and spiritual renewal. Local tradition credits him with miraculous interventions healing plague victims and protecting islanders from pestilence.
