Biografía

Our Lady of Victory commemorates Mary's intercession in the decisive naval Battle of Lepanto on October 7, 1571, where the Christian Holy League defeated the Ottoman fleet. Pope Pius V attributed this victory to Mary's intercession, having called for public rosary recitation beforehand. Following this triumph, Pope Pius V established the feast of Our Lady of Victory and later changed it to the Feast of the Holy Rosary to emphasize Mary's role and the power of prayer. This devotion reflects Christian belief in Mary's spiritual power and her ability to intercede for protection against forces of evil and persecution. The feast celebrates not merely military victory but spiritual triumph—the victory of faith over doubt, good over evil, and God's providence over human circumstance. Our Lady of Victory encourages Catholics to invoke Mary's protection in spiritual battles and to trust in her maternal intercession during times of struggle, persecution, or moral conflict.
